The FAQ for Graphology and Handwriting Analysis
Graphology
Graphology is the study and analysis of handwriting especially in relation to human psychology.
- Wikipedia
Graphology is the analysis of the psychological structure of the human subject through his or her handwriting. The central nervous system provides a direct and undistorted link to the deeper self. Every human mind comprises a unique and immensely complex blend of character and accumulated experiences of life. Handwriting reflects this by evolving constantly. No two samples are the same. Our graphologists study psychology and psychoanalysis. This, combined with the acquired skills of detailed analysis of the formation of writing, enables the detection and assessment of key personality elements such as ambition, energy, sociability, adaptability, sensitivity, etc.
- The British Academy Of Graphology
Graphology comes from two Greek words--graphein (to write) and logy (reference to a body of scientific knowledge). Thus, literally, the word means a scientific study of writing. And, more to the point, graphology is the study of handwriting as it relates to personality. Although most people learn to write a specific copybook style in school, once the student has reached "graphic maturity" (he can write a sentence without thinking about how to form each letter or word), his handwriting begins to change and become individualized. That's because every human has his or her own unique traits and foibles--no two people write exactly alike. Graphology is a way of understanding what makes someone tick.
- Sheila Lowe
Graphology is the study of handwriting with the goal of learning more about the writer. It is important to distinguish graphology from forensic document analysis, because although both involve the analysis of handwriting, different methods are employed, and the end goal is different. Graphology focuses on the psychology of the author, while forensic document analysis is meant to determine the origin of a document to learn whether it is valid or not. The two require radically different fields of study, and are approached from unique perspectives.

Graphology - the study of handwriting and handwriting analysis - is now an accepted and increasingly used technique for assessment of people in organizations. Handwriting analysis is an effective and reliable indicator of personality and behavior, and so is a useful tool for many organizational processes, for example: recruitment, interviewing and selection, team-building, counseling, and career-planning.
